Ball’s in your court

If you’ve so far missed the chance to voice your opinion on the future of Asheville’s parks and recreational programs and facilities, you have at least one more opportunity to do so.

The city will host public meetings regarding its Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts and Greenways Master Plan next Thursday, Jan. 31, at the following four locations, beginning at 6:30 p.m.:

East Asheville Community Center, 906 Tunnel Road

TC Roberson High School Cafeteria, 250 Overlook Road

Enka High School Cafeteria, 475 Enka Lake Road in Candler

Shiloh Community Center, 121 Shiloh Road

The city is in the process of developing a new master plan, which will examine existing facilities, open space, greenways, cultural-art programs and services within the city, as well as gather community opinion and prioritize future goals. The city has hired the Colorado-based consulting firm, GreenPlay LLC, to oversee the process.

    Help with the “plan”? It is simple. NO new parks. We are surrounded with “park” land. We live in the Blue Ridge Mountains! This is not NYC where a person needs green belts to break up the cement and buildings. My only concern with our parks was before the City put a permanent ranger at Pritchard Park. That spot needs someone to watch over the bums and ne’er do wells.
