Blog Log: The week in local blogging

So The Hangover Journals and What the Hell? are over it. They are done with politics. It’s enough to make you fall down and cry. But in our particular neck of the blog woods, it was a hard time to avoid politics.

Why? Well, there was certain visit by this guy who is running for president. So many local bloggers attended that, were it not for 20-some-odd thousand others there, the scene would have looked a lot like the recent BlogAsheville party.

If you want to read about what went down, Skippy Haha, So Much for Tact, Recovering Iowan, Crocheting in Asheville, Edgy Mama and Chasing the Bread Truck all attended.

A Hill-ish Life didn’t go, but didn’t let that stop them from getting plenty excited. It was hard to escape all the hoopla. Ashvegas, who live-blogged the visit, noted that you can’t even go to the gym without running into candidates.

There was also a presidential debate, but it looks like Easy Bake Coven and Bruisin’ Ales need to find another way of coping besides drinking games.

And in a time when we hear a lot about pork-barrel politics, BackForty is taking back the word “pig.”

So, yeah, bad time to try to avoid politics. But there were other things going on as well.

A Girl Who Wears Glasses had a birthday dinner of Mexican food, and Arratik celebrated one year of blogs with, um, ramen noodles.

Hazen Hunter sprained an ankle during some late-season water skiing.

She Who Eats mourned the loss of a favorite downtown restaurant.

And BlogAsheville welcomed a roster of new bloggers to its blog roll. Of note: A Year In Asheville, not to be mistaken with the A Year in Asheville that recently hung up the camera.
