Buses back on limited routes, some city facilities closed

While most of the snow around town is cleared, forecasts call for more on the way. Many buses are back, albeit on limited, delayed or reduced routes. Some city facilities are closed, and city parking is still free to the public.

All city parking decks and onstreet parking remain free to the public and will until the snow has “significantly melted and the situation has returned closer to normal,” city spokesperson Dawa Hitch tells Xpress.

Meanwhile, City Hall is open regular hours, though the WNC Nature Center, Senior Opportunity Center, Burton Street Center, Oakley Center and East Asheville Center are all closed. The Reid, Stephens Lee and Shiloh recreational centers open at noon. While the municipal golf course club house is open, the course is closed. Harvest House and the recreation office at Recreation Park are open.

Trash and recycling service is canceled until Monday, Jan. 17 due to transport difficulties.

The snow day program at the Montford Center is canceled due to a broken water pipe.

According to a city announcement, the bus route changes are:

RT. 1 Limited service – Haywood Rd. to Patton Ave. (turning around at Goodwill parking lot). No service provided to PVA.

RT. 2 Limited service – Merrimon Ave. to UNCA (turning around at Ingles parking lot).

RT. 4 Limited service – Biltmore Ave to Swannanoa River Rd. onto S. Tunnel Rd to (turning around at Innsbruck Mall parking lot).

RT. 5 Limited service – Charlotte St, turning around at Pound St.

RT. 6 Open.

RT. 8 Limited service – riders should call 253-5691 for details.

RT. 9 Limited service – Haywood Rd. to Brevard Rd. (turning around at Biltmore Sq. Mall parking lot). No service provided to PVA or Vocational Rehab.

RT. 11 Limited service – Haywood St. to Montford Ave. (turning around at Klondyke Apartments parking lot).

RT. 12 Open – no service on Raleigh Rd., Ledgewood Apartments and Wood Ave.

RT. 13 Limited service – Tunnel Rd. to S. Tunnel Rd. to NC 81 to VA hospital.  No service provided to Haw Creek area.

RT. 15 Limited service – Patton Ave. to Leicester Hwy. (turning around at Subway parking lot at Eliada Home Rd.).

RT. 16 Closed                                                                                                

RT. 18 Limited service – South French Broad to Livingston to Biltmore Ave. and MLK.

RT. 26 OPEN – No service provided to Social security office and Target.

RT. 28 Open – service is slow.                                                                                               

RT. 29 Open – service is slow.
