Small Bites

Red Stag Grill: Adam Hayes, recently of Greensboro’s lauded (and LEED platinum) Print Works Bistro, will serve as executive chef of the Grand Bohemian Hotel’s restaurant in Biltmore Village, slated to open this week. The Red Stag Grill’s dinner menu, posted online at www.bohemianasheville.com, spotlights a wide selection of steaks and a variety of old-world style comfort foods, including beef goulash, spatzle with wild mushrooms and roasted pheasant, braised red cabbage, Swiss dumplings and mac-and-Brie show up among the side dishes. Entrees are priced from $14 to $37. Call 274-1242 for more.

David Wolfe: David Wolfe rules the raw world. The green guru—known to his devoted followers as “Avocado” and “Mr. Superfood”—is so firmly entrenched in the new-age nutrition scene that entering the term “david wolfe raw food” into Google produces 31 pages of results before citing a single non-raw advocacy source. Asheville residents will have a chance to discover the reason for all the fuss when Wolfe leads a workshop on “Chocolate and Superfoods” at Jubilee! Celebration Hall on Apil 10 at 6:30 p.m. “You can become a Superhero in your own life by claiming your birthright, the best health ever,” proclaims a press release. The presentation, which costs $50, will be followed by music and dancing. To purchase a ticket, call 275-5594.

Two Spoons: Summer is most certainly on its way, according to West Asheville’s ice-cream calendar. Tastee-Freez has already reopened, and Two Spoons is planning its grand reopening for April 4. According to owner Marissa Brooks, the daylong festivities (12 noon to 7 p.m.) will include “face painting, giveaways, balloons and non-annoying kids’ music.” Two Spoons, which opened last year at 721 Haywood Road, features Asheville-made Ultimate Ice Cream. For more information, call 252-5155.

Limones: Sunday brunch is back at Limones, the popular Cali-Mex eatery on Eagle Street. For those early risers who take their huevos without the requisite bloody mary, the restaurant is opening at 10:30 a.m. The brunch menu, featuring a poblano-smoked duck-sausage burrito, goat-cheese-and-crab empanadas and smoked-chipotle chilaquiles, is available until 2:30 p.m. To learn more, call 252-2327.

Asheville Wine Consulting: Even the new, inclusive breed of oenophiles, who make a grand show of matching red wines to fish and proclaiming “A wine is good so long as you like it,” often harbor an obsession with ratings—an interest Asheville Wine Consulting plans to indulge at its next tasting. “What’s the Point?” will feature six wines with varying scores from major publications. “Four of them have been rated 90 points or higher, and two of them 80 points or less,” owner Jessica Gualano explains. “After tasting each wine, we will compare our conclusions with those of the critics. This is a highly interesting tasting format.” The tasting will convene at Hops & Vines, 797 Haywood Road, on April 13 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; tickets are $20. To register, call 273-1889.
