What it feels like…
To take the wrong turn in a trail race:
“A running buddy of mine followed a female runner off course on the Rock2Rock Trail Run at Camp Rockmont. He later admitted that he knew he was off trail but couldn’t resist following the attractive runner. I wouldn’t want to name names, but Lani should have known better! Another friend of mine [wound up] bouncing around in the back of a local pickup in the Pisgah National Forest [because he’d] gotten lost and ended up several miles from nowhere. Fortunately, a local fly fisherman trusted the worn-out-looking, aging runner and drove him five miles back to the finish line. I think this was the last race he ever ran.”
