Video-a-Go-Go: The local video roundup

It’s common knowledge that Asheville is a contra dancing hot spot. But the younger generation … they just don’t understand the appeal of this line-based folk dance. Or do they? Allow me to introduce something that will surely cause a firestorm of controversy in the contra dance community: Techno Contra.

Speaking of new and innovative things to take place in Asheville, here’s how Orlando-based comedian Dewey Chaffee saw the most recent Asheville Fringe Festival. In short: “This town is so cool.”

To be sure, there are lots of cool things about Asheville. One of them is taking place as I write this: the 48 Film Festival, with 28 teams competing to make the best film in a mere two days. While the films must be original, there’s no reason that the cast and crew can’t rehearse a little before the big event by making a quick practice film. Which is exactly what Skylab Productions did with this short work, Saw the Light.

Vlogger Supermom (also a blogger) tells us about getting a few moments rest from watching the kids thanks to a timely intervention by the hero known as Superdad. The results? A child-free bath and a batch of mint Oreo cookies.

Of course, Supermom might not have been able to relax quite as much if she’d known there were deadly black bears on the loose around Asheville! To defend yourself and your family from these woodland beasts, you need to be more than just smart. You need to be bear smart.

I’m not sure if there’s a way to apply chaos magic to ward off bears, but if anyone would know, it’s probably Br’er Abbott from the Asheville Chaos Majick Clique.

And to close out this week’s Video-A-Go-Go, we have … this. Nothing I can say will explain it. (Kind of not work safe due to language.)

Of course, this is a mere handful of the dozens of interesting local videos uploaded just this week to YouTube, and a mere fraction of the Asheville-related videos available on the internet. Did we miss a particularly interesting, recently uploaded local video? Share it by leaving the videos URL (but not the embed code) in the comment fields below. Also, please mark it Not Work Safe if there’s any controversial content to the video.
