It’s almost time for the city’s Chief Financial Officer Ben Durant to take his vacation. After months of discussion and tweaking, Asheville’s budget for fiscal year 2009/10 is set for a vote at Tuesday’s meeting.
City Council will also consider a joint agreement with Buncombe County to relocate the Energy Loop sculpture to the plaza of the county’s College Street parking deck.
On the development front, Council may approve a six-month extension for an agreement with McKibbon Hotel Group on the 51 Biltmore project. According to a staff report, the developer is still awaiting funding because of the economic slump. The city is planning to partner with McKibbon for a 410-space parking deck associated with the project.
And Council will vote on adopting a municipal strategic sustainability plan, but according to the staff report, budget woes may mean implementation of some steps may be delayed.
Asheville City Council meets Tuesday at 5 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall. Click here for the complete agenda.

51 Biltmore – this is where the Hot Dog King currently stands, correct?
This is not the same McKibbon Hotel Group project that is being considered on Haywood Rd across from the Civic Center & the Basillica.
Seems like McKibbon is getting some good ‘no-bid’ contracts on property around town.
In the consent agenda, Dale Joyner will be appointed to the URTV Board of Directors.
the residents of asheville and buncombe county are the culture around here,,we dont need that rusty piece of scrap iron, its junk and always was,we the area should have never paid for that ridiculous looking piece of twisted warped metal,,you good folks can call it art,but it reminds me of the twisted wreckage of the twin towers,,to many bad memories,,…quit wasting money on junk, you counsils and commissioners are supposed to be better stewards of the tax dollars,,
Ten bonus points, Brian, if you’ll start linking to the agenda in your City Council previews. Saves me two clicks! 8-)
Hey Gordon, it’s right there in the last line.

Tim –
Is that an endorsement or just a handy dandy document? ;-)
(thanks for converting that by the way!)
It’s both handy and dandy. But I have no endorsements yet. Thanks for running.
