Asheville City Council preview: Oct. 27 meeting

Two years in the making, the Transit Master Plan will make its big appearance Tuesday evening. The plan is intended to revamp the city’s bus routes in order to make them more efficient and to increase ridership. See the draft plan here. And while they are at it, Council members will also discuss continuing the Asheville/Weaverville bus route that is due to expire at the end of October.

Also on Council’s plate is another installment in the long-running Asheville/Woodfin annexation-agreement discussion outlining the areas each party can annex in the future.

On the public-hearing front, Council will hear plans for a level III, 106,646-square-foot building for an intermediate school on the same Overlook Road site that is currently home to Valley Springs Middle and Estes Elementary schools, as well as a level III expansion of the Davis Arena at the WNC Agriculture Center on New Airport Road.

Asheville City Council meets at 5 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall. Click here for the complete agenda.

Any chance we could get better service out in East Asheville? I live off of E. Tunnel Rd near 240 (not in Hawk Creek but in Beverly Hills on Governors View Rd). We have many people walking here from some nearby apartments that are close to 70 E. They walk both ways (going east and west). I only see one bus stop on Swananowa Rd near Walmart. People who have to walk Governors View Rd to get to that bus stop have a no-road-shoulder, risky walk on a 2-lane only going down the windy-part of Governors View Rd.
Generally, I support the Weaverville change just because we desparately need better mass transit in Asheville. We are very car dependent here.
