The sweltering weekend heat will only get worse today: Temperatures in Asheville are expected to reach 91 degrees, just shy of the record of 92 degrees, set back in 1993, according to accuweather.com. As is typical for this time of year, there’s around a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Temperatures are expected to drop to 66 degrees tonight with humidity levels reaching a near-saturation point 97 percent in the early morning hours.
Tomorrow, things are expected to cool down just a bit, with a high temperature of around 88, with a 75 percent chance of thunderstorms.
On the astronomical front, the sun will set at 8:48 p.m. today, with the moon hanging around until 2:49 a.m. Total daylight today will be 14.4 hours.
Excellent!!! Bring it on!
As a former staffer with deep affection for the Mountain Xpress, no matter our differences, I’ve got to take wide exception to the Xpress reporting weather or immediate events (like the fatal crash on 240 this weekend).
Quit pretending to be a daily. The strength here is weekly reporting on what matters to our community. Everyone who needs instantaneous weather info here can stick their heads out the window, and crash-by-crash info is for the daily and the talking heads.
Back to basics, please!
Sorry, but any poster who applauds the hot and humid, well I can’t wait for winter time. I have facial hair, warm clothes and 2 dogs to help keep the winter chill from these bones- we’ll see who’s laughing come January, (evil laugh).
Re: Cecil’s comments- I think he’s got a point. I only wish he addressed the fashion section as well.
