An Evening with an Album features Peter Gabriel, April 10

From a press release:

An Evening with an Album features Peter Gabriel, April 10

The April An Evening With An Album, to be held on April 10th in Asheville, NC, will explore the entirety of Passion by Pater Gabriel, with proceeds benefitting All Souls Counseling Center.  An Evening with an Album was created by a group of local audiophiles who share an interest in creating community through intentionally listening to selected albums that are artistically and culturally significant. The soundtrack to Martin Scorsese’s film The Last Temptation of Christ, Passion demonstrates Gabriel’s fascination with world music, which he employs here to create an exceptionally beautiful and aural tapestry of sound.

While chronologically the follow-up to the multi-platinum So, which contained such pop hits as “Sledgehammer” and “In Your Eyes,” Passion is arguably a truer representation of Gabriel’s musical aesthetic – that of instrumental experimentation, sonic landscapes, and non-Western sounds. Inspired by field recordings collected in areas as diverse as Turkey, Senegal, and Egypt, Passion achieves a cumulative effect clearly Middle Eastern in origin, yet its brilliant fusion of ancient and modern musics ultimately transcends both geography and time.  Remarkably dramatic, even visual, Passion stands as a tour du force on its own, despite its being a film score, and deserves serious consideration as one of Gabriel’s finest albums.

As those in the Christian faith tradition move toward the end of Lent – a time of spiritual and personal discipline – and into the Easter season, and as we all anticipate the abundance of spring, Passion serves as a model atmosphere for exploration of the self and for renewed connection within our communities.

An Evening With an Album (https://www.facebook.com/eveningwithanalbum) builds community around the shared experience of listening intentionally to an album that is culturally and/or artistically significant. By hearing an album in its entirety in the presence of each other and discussing that music together, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and develop deeper community connections.  Held on the second Thursday of every month at 6pm, An Evening with an Album is takes place in Zabriskie Hall on the campus of The Cathedral of All Souls in Biltmore Village. Sound and vinyl is provided by Stewart Sound (http://www.stewartsound.net/).  Beer, wine and light fare is served.  A suggested donation of $10 per person benefits non-profit organizations working to build community in our region – All Souls Counseling Center for the month of April.

All Souls Counseling Center (ASCC) (http://allsoulscounseling.com/) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides mental health services to uninsured and under-insured residents of Western North Carolina. Founded in 2000 by two therapists who were concerned with the lack of mental health services in the community, ASCC is a safety-net provider for individuals in need of counseling services.  ASCC has currently 30 contracted therapists, and serves approximately 1,100 clients per year, resulting in approximately 8,500 therapy sessions annually.   The suggested $10 door donation for Evening with an Album will help fund an individual therapy session for a person in need of mental health counseling.
