Rumors were flying on Twitter today, Dec. 21, about New Belgium Brewing’s ongoing interest in building a production facility in Asheville’s River Arts District. Several sources have confirmed to Xpress that the Colorado-based brewery is considering such a move. Meanwhile, Jason Sandford, a blogger and reporter for the Asheville Citizen-Times who Tweets as “@Ashevegas” generated a lot of attention with the following pair of missives regarding the Colorado-based brewery’s possible expansion:
@ashevegas: Word on the street: New Belgium Brewing closed today on a deal to buy property in Asheville’s River Arts District. #avlbeer
@ashevegas: Word on the street: Unconfirmed report that New Belgium has bought ppty on Craven St. in River Arts District for new brewery. #avlbeer
However, Sandford later backtracked when others, including Asheville Citizen-Times beer columnist Tony Kiss, tweeted contradictory information (Kiss tweets under the handle, “@AVLBeerguy”). Here’s an aggregation of some of the discussion, as it occurred via Twitter:
@beerpulse: New Belgium spokesman denies #avlbeer River Arts report, says that company has not bought property. Hopes to have announcement in February.
@AVLBeerguy: New Belgium says it has not signed on property here, rumors to the contrary. No decision on east coast expansion until Feb. #avlbeer
@BlogAsheville: Is victory ours? #avlbeer
@ashevegas to @BlogAsheville not yet. #avlbeer
@ashevegas: New Belgium spokesman says they haven’t purchased any Asheville ppty, and won’t make decision until Feb on new E. Coast brewery. #avlbeer
JPdoesAVEGAS: excitement continues! RT @Ashevegas: New Belgium spokesman says they haven’ purchased #Avl ppty, and won’t make decision until Feb #avlbeer
@Brewgasm: RT @winbassett: RT @beerpulse: New Belgium denies #avlbeer River Arts report, says that company has not bought property. Hopes to have announcement in Feb.
@BlogAsheville: Sigh. RT @AshevilleGuy: Yes and Jon Bon Jovi is still dead. Long live Twtitter. RT @BlogAsheville Is victory ours? #avlbeer
I hope they locate here. They are a good company to their employees, and their corporate style fits right in with the Asheville area, and mindset.
We need the jobs, and more like-minded companies in the area.
The Winter Warmer Beer Festival would be a good time to make such an announcement.
Excellent idea!
Hey! I know a great way to generate attention for my website! Announce ‘word on the street’ rumors!
