From United Way of Transylvania County:
Earlier this year, the Mediation Center invited area youth to submit their artistic visions of peace for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate. Over 130 young artists contributed to the contest.
We are proud to introduce you to our winners, three young visionaries of peace.
Kadee Glass, an 11th Grader at Davidson River School in Transylvania County, believes that “world peace doesn’t only reside in the borders of the United States, but all over the world.” Kadee hopes that she will one day help raise the next generation of peacemakers, as she plans to pursue art and eventually transition into child therapy.
6th Grader Emma Gates from Buncombe County’s Joe P. Eblen Intermediate School “wanted to show real kindness coming from the world” in her entry. ”I drew the hands to show how God would have the whole world in his hands after the world was peaceful.” Emma wants to be an artist and maybe a veterinarian because she loves animals “and I like helping others.”
Leia Thompson, 5th grader at Immaculata Catholic School in Henderson County, draws her inspiration from nature. ”My Mom takes me to the Blue Ridge Parkway and we look out on the mountains and fly kites all the time. It brings me a sense of peace.” Leia aspires to be a Mom, a cook, and maybe a dentist. For now, though, she enjoys “Natural surroundings. Warm breezes. Forests. Beautiful views. Fragrance of flowers.”
