From a press release:
Last year for International Festival of Biblical Storytelling in Asheville; event to move to D.C.
For the last five years, the international Festival Gathering of Biblical Storytelling has been held near Asheville at Ridgecrest Conference Center. In 2015 the festival moves to its new home in Washington, DC. But in August of this year, biblical storytellers from across the globe will gather for four days. The Bible and its stories are the at the heart of this international conference. Stories and storytellers are everywhere! There are Epic Tellings of scripture (this year’s telling is the Gospel of Matthew, which will be told over two evenings), workshops in storytelling from beginner to master levels; keynote speakers of national prominence, worship that flows from the presentation of theme stories of scripture ; a featured storyteller (this year it is Vanora Legeaux of New Orleans, a past president of the National Black Storytellers Association). And there’s fellowship and stories. Each evening of the festival concludes with “Lighting the Fire”—a late night sharing of favorite Bible stories by anyone who has a story to tell.
The Network of Biblical Storytellers, Int’l. (www.nbsint.org) has hosted these gatherings across the US for the past 37 years. With the conference moving in 2015, it is the last local chance for local pastors and laity to study storytelling of the Bible and learn more about the oral history of the holy scriptures. The Network will sponsor the NBS Seminar, a meeting of scholars who study biblical performance criticism, prior to the Festival.
The Festival registration is less than $400 for the full four days and day tickets are available. Call 1-800-355-6627 or visit www.nbsint.org/purchaseregistration to reserve your space at this unique international conference that celebrates the Bible as story!
