From the press release:
The N.C. Community Development Initiative is seeking rising high school seniors and community host organizations for the fifth year of its Summer Youth Leadership Program.
Applications will be accepted through April 16, 2012 for the intensive eight-week program, which places N.C. youth in internships in high-performing organizations in their communities to complete a project in community economic development and learn valuable workplace skills. Interns come together four times during the eight weeks for leadership development seminars that focus on building critical communications and service leadership abilities.
The Initiative makes this annual investment in the state’s young leaders as part of its long-term strategy to strengthen North Carolina’s local economies.
“We are developing leaders that truly understand the needs of their communities and the importance of building systems that work for all people, especially in communities that have fewer resources,” said Initiative program associate Kimberly Askew, who coordinates the youth leadership program.
“We hope that some of our interns will find a passion for community economic development through the program but the real goal is to help them become thoughtful leaders dedicated to leaving the world better than they found it,” Askew said.
Host organizations are responsible for developing a project that will provide their interns opportunities to lead and grow as individuals. Applications for host organizations will be accepted through March 16, 2012.
Applications for interns and hosts for the 2012 Summer Youth Leadership Program are available online at http://www.ncinitiative.org/youthapp.
