Buncombe County Rescue Squad Receives Grant from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina
(Asheville, North Carolina-8/8/2014)— “Help!” is a call that Buncombe County Rescue Squad is accustomed to answering. Recently, the Squad had to send out a distress call of its own, one that was answered by The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC).
On July 7, 2014, BCRS lost an ambulance due to a vehicle fire of undetermined origin. Due to the swift and professional response of the crew, Lieutenant David Pike and EMT-B Noah Morris, no one was injured; however, the loss of the ambulance has impacted every aspect of the Squad’s mission. A new ambulance is an absolute necessity and the total cost greatly exceeds the amount covered by insurance.
BCRS applied for a Janirve Sudden or Urgent Needs Grant through The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. CFWNC received the application and responded swiftly and with great generosity. The grant award from CFWNC will help close the gap between the cost and the insurance reimbursement, enabling the Squad to rebuild its fleet of vehicles to continue to fulfill its mission to the community.
“We are so fortunate to have an organization like CFWNC that can not only provide grant money to non-profits, but also have the vision to recognize that emergency funds are often needed very quickly when the unexpected happens. We are thankful for all they did and that the services we provide to the community will be practically uninterrupted,” said Nick Giardina, Acting Board Chair, Buncombe County Rescue Squad.
“It’s wonderful that CFWNC is there for organizations in need of immediate help. Their generous grant will help us replace a critical piece of equipment and will allow us to put our terrific crew members back to work doing what they love; serving others in need,” added Ryan Jordan, Chief, Buncombe County Rescue Squad.
