Asheville property owners slow to seek graffiti cleanup

City government heard loud and clear when residents and business owners said graffiti was getting out of control.
They just haven’t had nearly as many people take them up on an offer to help.
Asheville so far has spent less than 10 percent of the money it budgeted for its two-month-old graffiti cleanup program, partly because some property owners have passed on participating.
Property owners who have had contractors paid by the city remove graffiti on their buildings say they are happy with the results, but some city officials said they had hoped the number of cleanups would be greater by now.
