Over the past several weeks, and especially in the last two days, rumors have circulated around a possible sale of 12 Bones, a popular barbecue joint in the River Arts District (President Obama visited 12 Bones twice — in 2008 and 2010).
Earlier this year, Ashvegas (aka Jason Sandford) tracked then debunked the then-rumor of a sale. More recently, Xpress got a tip that the corporate name listed for 12 Bones’ liquor license had changed from Kelmo Inc. to Q2 Group. The former listed co-owner/founder Tom Montgomery as the lead agent. Q2 Group lists Bryan King.
The change doesn’t indicate a sale of the business, co-owner Sabra Kelley reports. Kelley and another source say it’s merely a change in the corporate structure which, she hopes, will give the couple more personal time. Kelley insists the corporate restructuring will still provide “good cheap butt and tender sides for all.”
Kelley and Montgomery have released this statement today.

Here is some clarification for those that are interested. We have not sold our restaurant, 12 Bones. We have brought in managing partners, Bryan and Angela, a couple we met 2 years ago. They are helping us with the daily grind and also with developing new ideas and directions. The business corporate structure has changed to reflect this new relationship.
Thanks for your support over the years, keep eating the pig!
So, they didn’t sell the restaurant . . . . they sold a PIECE of the restaurant to some active partner investors. I guess the rumor held an element of truth after all . . .
