Soulspeak Asheville hosts youth poetry slam, Sept. 27
SOULSPEAK ASHEVILLE will be kicking off the autumn season of youth poetry in a big way! SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 27th
They will welcome award winning poet, teacher and author MATTHEW FOLEY from Charleston, SC. Foley, author of We Could Be Oceans, is an amazing performance artist who will feature at the community organizations first youth poetry slam of the season. The WE ARE ALL POETS slam will take place at the newly opened performance hall space in West Asheville, The Rainbow Community Center Auditorium at 60 State Street @ 7pm. Tickets are just $12 for adults and $7 for students. Teachers always get in free. All proceeds will go to funding the free wordshops that SOULSPEAK offers on Saturdays for youth poets ages 12-21. That Saturday Foley will offer his wordshop: HEAVY and LIGHT: Mixing Comedy and Tragedy in Spoken Word Poetry FROM 3-5PM @ KAIROS, 742 Haywood Rd. SOULSPEAK was founded to give youth from WNC a platform for their voices. Through poetry wordshops, slams, showcases and classroom appearances they encourage youth ages 12-21 to develop critical thinking skills, increase creative writing abilities and become more confident public speakers.
