Exciting news — especially for Black Mountain music fans — Town Pump Tavern is back up and running.
The venue rather quietly opened its doors in April, posting a quick note — “Hey Black Mountain! We are open and ready to welcome everyone back! Live music, full bar and fabulous bartenders! Come on in!” — on its website.
The Town Pump, located at 135 Cherry St. in downtown Black Mountain, was, according to its website, originally a Trailways bus station. It was opened as a bar in its Cherry Street location in 1982. That makes this year the bar’s 30th. It did shutter back in June of last year and was sold early this year. But things are back on track with a live music schedule that include old-time act Carpenter & Clerk (tonight), blues-rockers Travers Brothers on Friday, May 25 and singer-songwriter Thomas Johnson on Saturday, May 26.
One special upcoming show is Americana group Kristin Diable & The City, from New Orleans. According to a press release, “The band just released their new record, recorded in the Historic Pontalba on Jackson Square in New Orleans. They’ve been recieving a great deal of good press from the previous year of touring and the new release. In support of the new release, they are playing more frequently in the Southeast region and were hoping to connect with more great venues to preform at regularly.” Kristin Diable & The City plays the Town Pump on Thursday, June 14 and at the Emerald Lounge the following night.
Town Pump hours are 3 p.m.-midnight Monday-Wednesday, 3 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday and noon-midnight on Sundays.
