Thanks for reading through to the end…
We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.
We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
Before you comment
The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.
Oh ho! Take those rose colored glasses off people! Now that the mid terms are over, don’t be too sure about a respite from crass reactionary disinformation political ads yet, dear voters.
Nov. 2016 is right around the corner (for the nice folks that flood us with political ads). Doesn’t that give you that fresh feeling like a summer’s eve?
In the mean time, now that the party of Mammon controls the Senate, let’s see if we can get something (anything?!) done?
Short of starting another war for Wall Street or declaring open hunting season on minority drivers by police officers.
You are SO letting me down, “boat rocker.” I was hoping for some anti-Molton sentiment. Try again.
On a more immediate and mundane level, it sure would be nice if the local candidates, be they winners or losers, removed the political signs still up all over the place. When I awakened on Nov. 4 and went to vote early that morning, I counted 27 placards from one candidate (who has now lost twice for the same office) on one side of my road in a three-mile stretch that had been put up between midnight and 8:00am. They were clustered together in groups with about 10 feet between each sign.. Other candidates had signs here and there, but this one candidate saturated the roadsides.
I know this happens everywhere, but it would reflect well on candidates if they’d clean up their mess.
I guess someone read the post about signs and took action; they were all there when I came in last night around 9:00, but when I left the house about an hour after my post, they had disappeared. The power of the post (or just lucky coincidence). In any event, thanks for removing them. It looks much nicer now.
