Food news to go: News from around the food-blog world

From the Hop Ice Cream Cafe:

“Help Ashley and I celebrate The Hop’s 33rd Birfday, as well as our 3rd year anniversary as owners, with FREE KIDDIE SCOOPS for all! No purchase necessary. In addition, many of the members of The Runaway Circus, Asheville Vaudeville and more will be around to entertain you!

We truly are extremely fortunate to be a part of such a great business tradition that is The Hop, such a great community of people and to call you our customers and friends. Hugs, high fives and much love!!!”

The celebration will take place on Sunday August 14, from 1 until 10 p.m. at The Hop at 640 Merrimon Avenue.

From Creme Patisserie:

“We are sad to announce that due to the limited time and financial resources available to us at the moment we are in the process of looking for a buyer for the bakery. If anyone is interested in more information please contact Jennifer or Jitra at 350-9839. We thank you for your business and we continue to be positive about the future of the bakery. We will be closed for summer vacation September 3rd to the 17th.”

The Chop Shop Butchery reports a tentative opening date of Sept. 15 via Facebook.

And Ashvegas has some word of a potential new brewery coming to the RAD.

Wonder why Creme has never “taken off” as a popular bakery in North Asheville? Is it the “invisible” location upstairs in Merrimon Square? Is the high prices, compared to the Atlanta Bread, which thrives across the street? Is the competition from the very visible Sister’s McMullen just down the street?
