Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County announces Griffin Award nominations open through Feb. 27

From The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County:

The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County (PSABC) is excited to announce that nominations for the 2015 Griffin Awards is now open through February 27. The Griffin Award, established in 1979, honors outstanding projects and individuals that further the goals of historic preservation throughout Asheville and Buncombe County.

From classic restoration projects such as the The Grove Arcade to exciting adaptive reuse projects like Asheville Habitat for Humanity Offices and Isis Restaurant & Music Hall, the Preservation Society recognizes the importance of preserving structures in both traditional and creative methods.

Application dates for this year’s awards are January 1 – February 27. For applications, please go to the PSABC website.

Categories for the awards are as follows: adaptive reuse, infill construction within a historic district or neighborhood, restoration, rehabilitation, research, publication and education, stewardship and preservation.

Winners will be notified April 17 and the awards presented on May 28, 2015.

About PSABC
The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to sustain the heritage and sense of place that is Asheville and Buncombe County through preservation and promotion of the unique historic resources of the region.

Established in 1976, the PSABC acts in four key ways to support this mission:

– Endangered Property Intervention using preservation easements, a revolving fund and technical field services,
– Preservation Advocacy promoting and defending important historic resources and neighborhoods,
– The Griffin Awards for Historic Preservation recognizing individuals, businesses and organizations that have utilized a preservation ethic in their projects, and,
– Preservation Education programs throughout the year informing the community of the importance of history and promoting valuable preservation tools and efforts.
