Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan spoke recently with WLOS about his views on marijuana legalization in North Carolina. Duncan believes the substance will be legalized, but expresses his concerns with the problems that may cause. Here’s the report from WLOS:
A big question currently circulating is whether marijuana will be legalized in North Carolina.
If you ask the Buncombe County sheriff, his answer is yes.
Sheriff Van Duncan has made headlines recently for saying it during his public appearance, but he says he does not support the legalization of marijuana and never will.
He says in his eight years of experience as sheriff in Buncombe County, he’s realized legalization increases accessibility and use and that could lead to a big problem on the roadways.
Sheriff Duncan says marijuana use is something that’s already been on the rise even without legalization in this state.

A just-released study by the National Highway Traffic Administration should make Sheriff Duncan feel better:
“Drivers who use marijuana are significantly less likely to crash than drivers who use alcohol, according to a new federal report.
In fact, after adjusting for age, gender, race, and alcohol use, stoned drivers are no more likely to crash than drivers who had not used any intoxicating substances, reported the Washington Post.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study found no statistically significant change in the risk of a crash associated with marijuana use, although drivers with a blood-alcohol content of 0.05 or above were at least seven times more likely to be involved in a wreck.”

Sadly Politicians spew disinformation so to maintain their brainless constituency; regardless of what they know the truth to be; minions cheers them on. The better informed consider the study by the National Highway Traffic Administration. thanx!
I had read only a few hours before the results of the study, so it was almost serendipidous that I happened to catch this brief piece later in the day. I’m glad to pass it along.
