U.S. Senator Richard Burr (R) addressed about 100 business leaders, elected officials and others the Feb. 21 at the Council of Independent Business Owners luncheon in Asheville.
As they ate barbecue at Magnolias Raw Bar & Grill downtown, Burr told attendees that he thinks the U.S. economy is on the verge of explosive growth. But to help make it happen, he said the federal government needs to tackle entitlement and tax reform.
However, he added: “If you’re waiting for the federal government to fix everything, you’re in for a big disappointment.”
He also expressed views on a couple of other hot national topics, noting that he thinks bipartisan immigration reform is “doable.” He also added that he doesn’t support limiting what guns consumers have access too, although he did say he thinks the government could improve the process for conducting background checks.
