UNCA hosts public input session on UNC presidential search amid controversy

A University of North Carolina board of governors committee will be coming to Asheville May 26th for public input on the body’s presidential search.

There has been some suspicion of partisan motivation behind the move to replace UNC president Tom Ross, who was forced to resign in January.  The News and Observer reports that the talk of political reasoning behind the dismissal of Dr. Ross revolves around the UNC board of governors chair John Fennebresque. His position is change for the sake of change.

In a statement about the search, Fennebresque said “UNC President Tom Ross, who has led the system with distinction since 2011, will continue in that role with the Board’s full support throughout the search process.” The earliest Ross is slated to retire is the third of January, 2016.

A representative of UNCA released an open invitation to the public today as follows:

The UNC Board of Governors has begun to search for the next leader of our 17-campus system and will host four regional input sessions across the state, including one at UNC Asheville.

May 26, 2015 – 7:00 p.m.
At theUNC Asheville
 Sherrill Center

The regional input session will take place in the Mission Health System Mountain View Conference Room 417. Attendees may park in the deck adjacent to the Sherrill Center in lot P9.
