Here’s the info via the OM Sanctuary email newsletter:
Led by hike leader Bev MacDowell, this short, strenuous hike to Mt. Craig & Mt. Mitchell will be our first hike in our new WNC Mountain Hiking series.
Saturday, July 6 we will hike through Canadian like forest to the panoramic views atop Mt. Craig. This includes a close up view of Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. We will retrace our steps and summit Mt. Mitchell via a paved path.
Here we will enjoy magnificent views from the observation tower and see the tomb of Dr. Elisha Mitchell. There is a fine small museum to visit as well. This hike is 2.4 miles and the drive is approx. 70 miles round trip; most of it on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.
Pre-registration is required. Please email info@omsanctuary.org or call us at 828.252.7313. Cost is $45 per hike. Hikes are limited to 7 people.
A simple bag lunch will be provided by OM Sanctuary. Upon registration you will be given a list of suggested items to help make the most of your hike.
