Watch for more voices in Xpress’ Food section, thanks to Gina Smith, our new coordinator who took over last week from outgoing Food Writer Emily Patrick. She will help evolve the section into a forum for readers, food activists, restaurateurs, chefs and community leaders to tell their food stories. Smith will also contribute articles and features.
Smith is an Asheville-based freelance journalist who has contributed community and school news to The Charlotte Observer for many years and, more recently, to Verve magazine. She honed her management skills during a five-year stint as full-time volunteer coordinator at Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley. And, as a founding member of the Oakley Farmers Market steering committee, she has developed ties to local farmers and entrepreneurs.
We choose Smith to helm the Food section because we believe her skills are well suited to the Xpress mission of building community and promoting activism.
If you’ve got an idea for a food story, want to tell us what you’d like to see in this section, or want to share a food-news tip, email us at food@mountainx.com, or call 251-1333 and ask for Gina Smith.
Before you comment
The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.
