Missions of Mercy set to serve hundreds with free dental care April 22 and 23

Press release from Eblen Charities:

Many in need of dental care in our community who find it just out of reach will be able to get much of the treatment they need this coming Friday April 22nd and  Saturday April 23rd on in the main campus of Biltmore Baptist Church on Clayton Road in south Asheville.

The two day dental clinic provided by the North Carolina Dental Society, Buncombe County Dental Society, Buncombe County, Eblen Charities, ABCCM, and other partners is once again bringing together the dental community and scores of volunteers to provide free dental care to hundreds of families in our area that otherwise may not be able to afford it.

The clinic will begin at 7:00 AM both days and patients will be seen on a first come first serve basis. Services will include dental x-rays, extractions, fillings, restorative care, and  a limited number of removable dental prostheses.

This will be the fourth time that Eblen Charities has joined Missions of  Mercy Dental Outreach in our community that has served more than 1,900 patients, providing dental x-rays, extractions, fillings, restorative care, cleanings, with more than $1,100,000 worth of dental care provided during the two day clinic.

None of this would have been possible without Eblen Charities board member Dr. Jack Teague who brought Missions of Mercy to our community in August of 2010 and the wonderful committee this year led by dentists Glenn Miller and Steven Saunders, and former Dental Department Chair of A-B Tech Shaun Tate, Nancy Miller, Susan Riddle, Mary Ann McMinn, Scott Rogers, Alex Pence, Ann Kunkel, Kelvin Mosley, Christian Cooper, Michael Justice, Christine Maloney, Lynn McKinney, Prissy Allen, Jim Vaughn, and Woody Bolinger.

“The 2016 Asheville Area Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic will provide free dental care to those in need in our community. The dental services provided will be teeth restoration, teeth extractions, and hygiene prophylaxis. More than 240 volunteers will help in the operation of the 40 dental chair clinic. The MOM Clinic hopes to serve more than 650 patients during the two days. Thank you to all those volunteering their time and financial donations to make this community based clinic to treat those in need a reality,” states Dr. Glenn Miller, chairman of the 2016 MOM- Asheville Dental Clinic.

“This is again a wonderful opportunity for our community and for our area dentists who show their care and concern for those who are underserved. The Missions of Mercy Project not only brings attention to the access to care issue but also provides actual care to so many in need. Once again we are looking to provide upwards of a half million dollars in free dental care thanks to everyone involved,” adds Bill Murdock, executive director of Eblen Charities.
