PRESS RELEASE:
Over one thousand high level female gymnasts’ from throughout the Southeast will compete in a USA Gymnastics sanctioned regional competition beginning Friday, April 22nd at The U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Asheville. Girls from eight states between the ages of 6 and 18 will compete in the largest gymnastics competition in Southeast Region 8, comprising of finalists from South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Alabama Mississippi, Louisiana and North Carolina. Participants had to qualify in their respective states to compete in this weekend’s event. The competition is a culmination of these gymnasts’ hard work and success for the 2016 season, and will go through Sunday.
Miles Avery, a four time U.S. Olympic coach and his wife Monica Avery who own OSEGA Gymnastics in Swannanoa, NC will be co-hosting this event along with The Buncombe County Area Sports Commission.
Three time Olympic gold medalist Svetlana Boguinskaia “The Belarusian Swan” will be attending the competition.
A portion of ALL proceeds will go to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
