Wednesday, November 16, 2016, is code orange for most of Western North Carolina. Air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Children, active adults, and those with heart or respiratory disease, including asthma, should limit outdoor activity. Code red is forecast for areas east of Western North Carolina, including McDowell, Rutherford, Polk and Cleveland counties, as well as the Hickory and Charlotte areas where air quality will be unhealthy. Everyone should avoid prolonged outdoor activity. If smoke is present, consider the air quality code red.
A burn ban is currently in effect.
