Press release from Asheville-Buncombe County NAACP:
Several Western North Carolina Branches of the NAACP will sponsor a Die-In Thursday, May 4, 2017at 3:30 p.m. at the Hendersonville offices of Congressman Mark Meadows (200 N. Grove Street).
The protest is intended to underscore the dire consequences of the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and the still unknown contents of the American Health Care Act sponsored by President Donald Trump and supported by Republicans in Congress including Congressman Meadows and his ultra right-wing Freedom Caucus.
Featured will be a dramatic portrayal of the consequences of removing pre-existing conditions from health insurance coverage, including moving people with pre-existing conditions into a high risk pool, as has been suggested by Congressional leaders. The loss of Essential Health Benefits, also believed to be included in the new legislation, will have dramatic effects that make so-called “health insurance” the province of only the rich and will cost untold millions to lose health insurance benefits and will result in the deaths of tens of thousands, if not more.
