Press release from Hemp X:
HempX Asheville, a collaboration between HempX and Franny’s Farm, is a unique festival experience where each attendee is introduced to the multiple applications and uses of industrial hemp. Presented by Founders Hemp, the two-day event will feature workshops including hemp paper making, braking, and weaving; panels and discussions on planting, harvesting, and hempcrete design; and presentations from Kentucky hemp activist Craig Lee and Dr. Shawn Lucas, Assistant Professor of Organic Agriculture at Kentucky State University.
“HempX Asheville has always been about education,” said Blake Butler, co-founder of HempX. “Our new home at Franny’s Farm will give everyone a chance to get dirty and get serious about how to use industrial hemp.”
North Carolina is in the inaugural year of its hemp pilot program, and with bills recently signed in South Carolina and Tennessee, multiple Southern states are looking to compete in this emerging market. An incredibly versatile crop, hemp fiber, oil seed and flowers are used for a myriad of products—including health foods, body care products, building materials, automobile parts, bio-composites, batteries, bio-fuel, textiles, paper and many others. There are estimated to be over 25,000 products made using hemp.
Other highlights of this year’s festival include the induction of Jake and Andy Graves, Patrick Goggin, and Anndrea Herman into “The Hemp History Hall of Fame”, and a closing concert featuring Jane Kramer with Free Planet Radio & Billy Cardine.Festival goers will also be able to interact with a variety of local and national vendors and industry experts, including N.C. State University, Fiber Farm, Fifth Season Gardening, Alembic Studios, Carolina Hemp Company, Hemptations, Blue Ridge Hemp, Hybrid Health and more. Out of the Blue food truck will be on-site, as well as plenty of water refill stations and hemp-infused free samples throughout the day.
