What: Ballerina Olena Pedan performs “Dove of Peace” in honor of September 21 International Day of Peace. The “Dove of Peace” choreography is from Great Russian Nutcracker and portrays Moscow Ballet’s dedication to world peace
2017 Peace Day Theme: Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All, Peace Day Asheville was formed to celebrate the possibility of Peace, not only for one day, but every day.
When: 11:15 to 11:45am – Ballerina performs “Dove of Peace” in costume and in the grass
Where: Between City Hall and Pack Tavern at the Peace Pole in downtown Asheville
Who: Moscow Ballet Soloist and Audition Director Olena Pedan
• Tours internationally throughout Europe and China as Guest Artist
• In 2006 graduated from Dnipropetrovsk Academic Theater of Opera & Ballet and simultaneously received Master’s in Journalism and Mass Media Communications
• Also studied Choreography and Directing at International Slavic UniversityMoscow Ballet first toured to US and Canada during Glasnost, and has been dedicated to promoting peace since then, which is reflected in Great Russian Nutcracker Act II, renamed the “Land of Peace and Harmony” (as opposed to traditional “Land of Sweets”) and the Dove of Peace (instead of Sugar Plum Fairy).
