Press release from the Buncombe County Democratic Party:
Buncombe County Democrats held their annual convention on Saturday, March 23 at Asheville High School. Hundreds of participants from across the county gathered to elect a new executive board for 2019-2021, State Executive Committee members, and delegates to the District 10 and District 11 Conventions to be held later this spring.
Jeffrey Rose was elected to a second term as Chair of the Buncombe County Democratic Party. Other board members elected to serve again were Denise Marecki, 1st Vice-Chair and Ellen Costanzo, 3rd Vice-Chair. New board members elected at the convention were Beverly Miller, 2nd Vice-Chair; Emily Whitmire, Secretary; and Rich Lee, Treasurer.
“Buncombe Democrats are organized, fired up, and we know how to win elections,” said Jeff Rose. “Our volunteers are ready to make sure that not only do we elect Democrats locally, but that we do our part to make the next President and North Carolina Senator are both Democrats.”
Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer welcomed the convention attendees. Keynote speaker, County Commissioner Amanda Edwards, provided an update on important projects Democrats are leading at the county level. Candidates for local offices took the opportunity to introduce themselves to this activist audience.
Resolutions submitted at February precinct organizing meetings were considered, discussed and voted on. Delegates to the convention passed resolutions for inclusion in the County Party Platform and to be submitted to the NC Democratic Party.
