Press release from Malaprop’s Bookstore / Cafe:
Due to the Covid-19 health crisis, Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe is closing to customers as of 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 20th. We have made this very difficult decision out of concern for everyone’s well being. We will reassess the situation to determine next steps at the end of March.
While we will be closing our doors to customers for a time, we are not discontinuing our service to you. We are exploring new subscription services, delivery options, and digital content. Please stay tuned for more as we work on those plans.
Meanwhile, here’s how we’ll be operating beginning Saturday, March 21:
As always, you can order online 24/7 at malaprops.com. You can also call us at 828-254-6734 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily to order by phone. Yes, we can make suggestions!
All orders will require prepayment. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and Paypal.
FREE shipping via media mail is available for orders over $50.00 (before tax) sent to addresses in the continental United States. Other orders ship via Priority Mail or other services with prices listed at checkout.
FREE curbside pickup is available between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. Just call about 5 minutes before you arrive and pull up in front of the store on Haywood St.
FREE delivery in Downtown Asheville will be available between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. Give us your downtown address and request downtown delivery when you order. We’ll walk it over!
We want to thank you again for your continued support, especially at this time. Our 35 staff members are hourly employees whose livelihoods are greatly impacted by these changes. If you’re looking for other ways to support our staff, you can donate to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC), which provides grants to booksellers in times of need.
We are concerned for you, just as we are concerned for our staff. Please take care of yourselves and each other. We will be back in touch with you soon.
Before you comment
The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.
