Press release from APD:

In February of 2020 Shiloh Community Liaison, Lt. Jonathan Brown, was approached by several neighbors regarding drug related activity occurring in the area of 1077 West Chapel Road. As a result of the information provided by Shiloh residents, the Asheville Police Department’s (APD) Drug Suppression Unit (DSU) began an investigation into reported suspicious activity that was taking place, as well as investigating the homeowner, Xavier Mijvan Sanders.
On May 8, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle of Xavier Sanders and seized over an ounce of cocaine and a 9mm handgun from Sanders’ vehicle. As a result of evidence that was obtained from the traffic stop, APD established probable cause for a search warrant on Sander’s residence (1077 West Chapel Road). The search warrant was conducted on the same day. The following items were seized from the residence:
  • 7 firearms
    • Mossberg .22 caliber rifle
    • Stevens 12 gauge shotgun
    • Kel-Tec 12 gauge shotgun
    • Smith & Wesson 9 mm pistol
    • Hi-Point 9 mm pistol
    • Colt .38 caliber revolver
    • Regent .38 caliber revolver
  • 3.199 ounces of marijuana
Xavier Mijvan Sanders (34), of Asheville, is currently being held at the Henderson County Detention Center on a $221,000 bond. Henderson County charged Sanders with:
  • 2 counts of trafficking cocaine
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Maintain a vehicle for a controlled substance
In addition, APD has charged Sanders with:
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Maintain a dwelling for a controlled substance

Under the direction of Chief David Zack, the Asheville Police Department is, and will continue to, place a heavy focus on violent crime and crimes involving gun violence. Over the course of the past few years Asheville has seen a steady increase in these types of crimes. APD is committed to addressing these issues and focusing resources on these types of crimes to make Asheville a safer community for everyone.

We would like to thank the residents of the Shiloh community for their diligence in assisting APD in this investigation and their dedication to making our community safer. In addition, we would like to thank the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance on this investigation.
