Xpress' election coverage is driven by the imperative to provide the information voters need, whatever their politics. In our annual poll of readers, just over half see themselves as liberal; 15% consider themselves to be moderate; and 29% declare they're conservative. The remaining 14% maintain they are "beyond labeling." We treasure that diversity of perspectives and seek to honor it through unbiased, comprehensive coverage.

Our General Election Voter Guide is the culmination of each election seasons' efforts. Our reporters reach out to every candidate running in a contested local race to represent Buncombe County residents, record their answers to the same set of questions and present the results side by side. This year, for the first time, we've presented all the local races that appear on Buncombe County ballots all together in a single issue. And, thanks to the support of over 100 readers, we've printed 8,000 additional copies of the guide, which we will distribute through Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, across Buncombe County.

Early in-person voting begins Thursday, Oct. 15, and the Buncombe County Board of Elections has information about where and when to vote. Absentee ballots to vote by mail may be requested through Tuesday, Oct. 27. Polls are open 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
