Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Before you comment

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.

Was it even legal for Woodfin Town Commissioners to do what they did without going through the proper protocols???
There’s an election coming up, so we should really get answers from those guys (and ladies).

If this will negatively impact the health and public safety of nearby Asheville residents, I certainly hope that the City of Asheville will finally speak up to protect their taxpayers!

For those of you who mistakenly believe that all developers care about our health and public safety (or even wish to be decent human beings), you might want to check out this video when Bluffs developer is heard on a hot mic calling Woodfin Board members a ‘bunch of scumbags’.

I have a suggestion for any council members of Woodfin or Asheville who happen to read this…

When one municipality allows another to annex land for potential future development, there should be some sort of clause that the land being annexed still adhere to at least some of the guidelines that protect the health and safety of residents living in the municipality where the land perhaps should have remained. In business parlance, it’s called a ‘warm transfer’.

It’s just ludicrous that Woodfin does not have any steep slope rules and that they could potentially screw up the French Broad River that is vital to our entire community.

Attend Woodfin Town Commissioners Meeting on Tuesday, August 17th, at 6:30pm.
Woodfin residents are encouraged to speak during Public Comment.
Insist that the Town adopt zoning ordinances that protect the health and safety of residents and neighboring communities rather than unfairly favoring developers. We need better government now or different leaders soon (and there’s an election coming up!)

    Corrupt or incompetent?
    Yep, Woodfin.
    Take Your Pick.
Dummies couldn’t even remember to adopt a comprehensive plan for their town.
