APD investigating early morning armed robbery in the RAD

Asheville Police Department detectives are investigating an armed robbery that occurred after midnight on Aug. 14 when a man and woman were robbed at gunpoint while sitting outside of a business in the River Arts District.

Patrol officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Roberts St. around 2 a.m. early Sunday morning in reference to an armed robbery.  The two victims told the responding officers that two men wearing masks and hoodies approached them at gunpoint, demanding their money.  The suspects took the woman’s purse, man’s wallet, and their cell phones.  The suspects also took car keys from the woman’s purse and stole her vehicle, which was parked nearby.

Patrol officers conducted a search of the area and were able to locate the stolen vehicle about a half-mile away on the 100 block of Riverside Dr. The car was unlocked and ransacked.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are investigating this case and are asking the public for any information they might have.  The victims described the suspects as two younger black males who had approached them from the side of the building.
