Press release from APD:
Asheville Police Department Officers were called to the 100 block of State St. in west Asheville at 10:44 AM yesterday, July 18th, for a report of a gunshot wound. They found the victim, a 32-year-old man, suffering from gunshot wounds to the legs from a large caliber pistol. A Sergeant, who arrived on the scene first, was trained in “Tactical Emergency Casualty Care” and applied a tourniquet to the victim’s left thigh, the more egregious of the wounds. Officers were able to stabilize the victim long enough for EMS to arrive and transport them to Mission Hospital for treatment.
The incident appears to be part of an altercation that occurred between the victim and an unidentified offender; the victim fled the altercation and was shot as they tried to escape. The offender is described as a black male wearing a white tank-top who fled in a white Nissan. Forensic Technicians were able to recover physical evidence.
