Buncombe County EMS and Sheriff’s Office Announce Launch of Co-Responder Unit
WHEN and WHERE:
Friday, October 27 at 1:30 p.m. Buncombe County Emergency Services, 164 Erwin Hills Road, Asheville 28806.
WHAT: Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller, Buncombe County Emergency Services Director Taylor Jones, EMS and Sheriff’s Office staff will speak about the launch of a Co-Responder Unit.
PUBLIC SAFETY OBJECTIVE: Providing appropriate response to community members who may be experiencing an overdose, mental health crisis and/or substance use disorder.
COORDINATED APPROACH: Co-responder Unit consists of licensed mental health professionals contracted by Buncombe County EMS and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
ROOT CAUSE SOLUTIONS: Answer calls for service and attempt to divert individuals from the criminal justice system and instead link them to resources and care.
