Read 2 Succeed Asheville/Buncombe (R2S) is thrilled to put Asheville on the map for the national celebration
of Black Children’s Book Week (BCBW), Feb. 25 – Mar 2, 2024.Administered by BlackBabyBooks.com, BCBW is a global celebration of Black children and the people who
ensure Black children are represented in books and other children’s media. In addition to spreading awareness
of Black children’s literature, BCBW also offers families the ability to learn about new Black books, authors, and
illustrators in their virtual museum as well as find family reading events across the country to attend. Learn

Schools Foundation presenting Jason Reynolds, Books Alive! With Ms. Ann, and a BCBW celebration on
March 1st in the Pisgah View Apartments.“Black Children’s Book Week offers a special time to recognize the importance of representation in children’s
literature and celebrate amazing Black authors, illustrators, and storytellers,” said R2S Co-Executive Director
Jess McLean. “We see joyful and engaged readers when the books children have access to reflect diverse,
responsive and inclusive characters, communities, and stories. R2S is proud to share new Black children’s
books with our Asheville and Buncombe County Communities through our literacy programs and events.”ACSF brings acclaimed author Jason Reynolds to Asheville to engage with students and share his book “Look
Both Ways” on Thurs., February 29th. R2S will be tabling at the student art show before his presentation and
sharing free copies of Jason’s books with attendees. That same evening, families can tune in virtually to Books
Alive! With Ms. Ann on facebook live for a one-of-a-kind story-telling experience.The following day, Fri., March 1st, new children’s book author from Birmingham, AL Dantavius Washington will
join R2S and families at the Pisgah View Apartments community center at 5PM for a big celebration and share

helping close the race-based opportunity gap through community-powered literacy programming. R2S
