Asheville Humane Society hosts Pigapalooza 2024

Press release from  Asheville Humane Society:

Pigapalooza is a recurring Asheville Humane Society event that waives all pig adoption fees in the hopes of finding them all loving and appropriate forever homes. Asheville Humane Society has over 20 pigs in their care, and they are housed at the Buncombe County Farm. Pigapalooza will take place on June 28th and 29th from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Buncombe County Farm located at 61 Clover Lane, Swannanoa NC.

Many of these pigs have been surrendered after their owners could no longer care for them, or were surprised by the reality of how large pigs grow.

Contrary to popular belief, any version of miniature pigs do not exist. Most of the pigs that we have at the farm are potbelly mixes and can grow to be between 50-250 lbs. However, with the appropriate space, knowledge, and time, anyone can be a fantastic pig parent. Pigs are famous for being the most intelligent of the barnyard animals and are eager to socialize amongst humans and pigs alike.

A good pig parent will live on a farm or in a home with a fenced-in piece of land, understand that pigs will engage in normal activities, like rooting, and will have considered the financial obligations of owning pigs such as hoof and tusk trimming. All male pigs adopted from Asheville Humane Society have been neutered.

Please note that all interested adopters will have to provide their own transportation for the pigs and be approved by our adoption counselors. These pigs are not intended for human consumption.
