The Profiler’s ClubNotes

Character(s): Van Ghost: Michael Harrison Berg, Jennifer Hartswick, Grant Tye, Greg Marsh and Klem Hayes

Setting/Time: Pisgah Brewing, Saturday, March 17 at 9 p.m.

The Beginning: Vocalist Harrison Berg leaves quiet life of desperation as a concert promoter/band manager to experience life on the other side of the stage. Convinces friend Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio vocalist and amazing trumpet player) to partner and form supergroup.

Interesting subplot: They just performed in Chicago as John Oates’ (of Hall and Oates) backing band and released a brand new EP, The Effect.

Also see: Rob Thomas, The Goo Goo Dolls.

The Cliffhanger: Will they or won’t they acknowledge the St. Patrick’s elephant in the room?

Character(s): Frankenstein Brothers: Buckethead and That 1 Guy

Setting/Time: The Orange Peel, Tuesday, March 20 at 9 p.m.

The Story: Boy Meets Boy. Buckethead, ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist known for performing with a KFC bucket on his head and designated by Guitar World as one of the esteemed “25 all-time weirdest guitarists,” teams up with That 1 Guy, a classically trained double-bass player/one-man band who grew frustrated with previously existing instruments and designed his own “magic pipe.”

Shifts in Tone: The duo moves from Bolt in Neck madness to the more playful “Buttmachine” or their cover of the Willy Wonka theme song.

Feel-good Message: There is literally and figuratively a lid for every pot.

Character(s): Gomez: Ian Ball, Paul “Blackie” Blackburn, Tom Gray, Ben Ottewell and Olly Peacock.

Setting/Time: The Orange Peel, Saturday, March 17 at 9 p.m.

Backstory: This English alt band won the Mercury Music prize for their first release, Bring It On. The last three studio albums have all cracked the U.S. Indie Top 20 Chart.

Plot Twist: Four out five band members write songs and three take turns with lead vocals. One out of five band members is enrolled in a songwriting workshop.

Be Careful What You Wish For: Their title track for 2006’s How We Operate will forever be associated with Grey’s Anatomy.

How it Ends: We’re guessing See the World or Get Miles.
