Newly formed local band Even the Animals blends dusky Americana with softly gritty indie rock. The band's name comes from its own achingly pretty waltz-noir "Love and Loss." The group is made up of seasoned musicians: Jeff Markham (Kerouac or the Radio, The Last Call) on guitar/vocals, Kent Spillmann (Allen Thompson Band, Dave Dribbon Project) on drums, Peter Van Rijssen on bass/vocals and Will Hogancamp on guitar. Get acquainted with Even the Animals on Saturday, March 23 at Highland Brewing (with guest performances by Leigh Glass and Dave Dribbon), 6-8 p.m. Free. http://www.highlandbrewing.com.
