Have bands, will travel: Raleigh's Hopscotch Music Festival is still months away, but organizers have put together a series of summer "road shows" to highlight regional performers and keep the diverse indie festival on the forefront of music lovers' minds. The tour stops in Asheville on Thursday, May 2 with Naked Gods (pictured), The Critters and Oulipo.
Cinco de music: Zia Taqueria will host an outdoor Cinco de Mayo party with art vendors, family-friendly games and, appropriately, five local bands: Lyric, Decent Lovers, Big Nasty Jazz Band, The Krektones and The Critters.
Behind the Mic
Asheville FM hosts dozens of weekly shows that run the gamut of musical styles and tastes (you name it, they've got it). But don't take our word for it: take theirs. Xpress brings you this weekly feature — direct from the DJs — highlighting a few of the station's stellar offerings. www.ashevillefm.org.
Ultimate Twang is a three-hour trip back to a time when the sounds of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Eddy Arnold, Alabama, George Jones, Tammy Wynette and George Strait filled the radio. Sit back and enjoy the nostalgic sounds of days past as the gentle breezes of yesterday carry those long-lost voices back to the forefront of your memory. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
