Best Of Asheville Vaudeville

Asheville Vaudeville is back, with more juggling, comedy, magic, burlesque and short plays. In fact, the upcoming Friday, Aug. 6 show is slated to be so good it’s being billed as both the biggest and the best.

According to a press release, “The BEST OF Asheville Vaudeville show features acts selected and chosen by our audience members and Facebook fans. As a result, the BEST OF Asheville Vaudeville will showcase fifteen acts from our seven consecutive months of sold-out shows. This is your show.”

The event brings not only a showcase of local talent (core troupe members include Tom the Magician, Vendetta Creme, Charlie K Chaplin, Strings Attached Marionettes by Madison J. Cripps, Forty Fingers and the Missing Tooth, Sirius.B and host Baron Von Sneeden) but it’s also a fundraiser for MANNA Food Bank.

That fits in with the show’s mission: “In short: we aim not only to astound, to please, and to entertain, but to do so with alarming consistency; to craft a troupe of continually-developing performers and provide exposure to noteworthy new performers and acts; to build and nurture an audience who feel constantly reminded of why they live in Asheville; to offer work, exposure, and artistic collaboration to all our performers; to provide 600 meals to hungry members of our community for every sold-out show and – ultimately – to instigate a new artistic movement in Asheville in celebration and continuation of such fine American institutions as variety theatre, burlesque, sideshow and, particularly, vaudeville.”

Asheville Vaudeville donates a third of all proceeds to MANNA; each sold out show provides some 2,000 meals. Learn more here.

The Friday, Aug. 6 show begins at 8 p.m. at Club 828.
