A bit about Big Hungry, from the band’s bio:
Zaq Suarez formed Big Hungry in the winter of 2010-2011 in Asheville, North Carolina after the break up of the band that moved him here, Open Windows. Finding inspiration in the cold, he decided to make a move musically toward a more of a rhythm and harmony based form of Indie rock.
“I’ve found that most of my favorite songs are 1 to 3 minutes long … It’s harder to do than you may think, squeezing a whole idea into such a small amount of time, but the goal is to have the listener get to the end of the song and start it back,” says Zaq. Although Big Hungry has a lot of members (including Open Windows drummer Ben Woodward who was added as percussionist/hype man) they achieve a quiet sound. “I hand picked members from some of my favorite groups around Asheville and told them all, this is my band and these are my songs. I respect you as musicians so I want your input but at the end of the day, I have the final say. Everyone agreed and the sound has exceeded my expectations.”
Where did you get the name Big Hungry? There is a valley between Upward and Dana called Big Hungry and the same named river runs thru it. Is there a connection?
