Kovacs and the Polar Bear have been riding high on a wave of packed local shows since the release of their much-anticipated sophomore effort, Second Sister, last month. Tonight, the local favorites bring their intoxicating harmonies and driving indie folk to the Emerald Lounge for a performance with literary folk songstress Madeline. If you’ve been waiting to catch Kovacs, tonight’s the night. The band performed with Madeline at The LAB in July, and if the energy and charisma of that evening was any indicator, this show promises to be one for the books. Plus, after an action-packed month and a half, the band is ready to lay low for … well, “a while.” According to Kovacs’ Facebook page, “It’s gonna be our last show in Asheville for a while. What that means, I don’t know. But it’s a special night with special people.”
10 p.m. $5.

Well, that sucks. Great band, although the show we saw at Desoto Lounge a couple of weeks ago was a little rough. These guys could have been big.
Don’t get too bummed, Doug, they can still be big! Kovacs isn’t breaking up or anything, just laying low for a bit to do some writing and resting.
