If you haven’t already heard, FANATICON is coming to the Asheville Art Museum/Pack Place on Saturday, May 15. It’s a celebration of all things comic book and pop culture.
Organizers held a poster-design contest for the first-ever event, and famous artist Brent Brown (of Horse Shoe) won.
From the press release:
“Brown is a graphic designer and illustrator. His cartoons can be seen regularly in the Mountain Xpress or on his Web site at www.brentbrown.com. Brown’s poster, which depicts a large, but smiling, monster crashing his way through various Asheville landmarks, impressed the judges with its sense of energy, comic book style and unmistakable Asheville character.”
The panel of judges included Nancy Sokolove (adult programs manager, Asheville Art Museum), Jami Daniels (Daniels Graphics) and Jason Sandford (http://ashvegas.squarespace.com/). Daniels was pleased with all the entries and appreciated the obvious time and thought on display. She said, ‘It was not an easy decision. All of the entries were fantastic! You can tell the artists really took the assignment seriously, but had a lot of fun with it, too.’”
Brown will receive $250, plus an annual family membership to the Asheville Art Museum. Brent’s prizes will be awarded at FANATICON, preceding a special presentation with Marvel Comics artist Butch Guice in the Diana Wortham Theater at 2 p.m.”
